Education and Credentials
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) Candidate. I have been educated by Florida Atlantic University for my BSW, Barry University for my Masters , Certified by the State of Florida in Addictions and educated by the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapis
Why I chose to specialize in Addictions
I have an immense passion to help people to heal and grow out of the insanity of addiction. As an addictions expert AND as a person who suffered from a seemingly hopeless addiction in my teens and early 20s, I have a personal and professional commitment to helping my clients overcome their addictions. I have been recovered for nearly two decades and therapy was a very important part of that journey. Through my work, I have gained the peace, happiness and strength that I always desired. I want every client that I support to experience the miracle that I have.
My approach is to blend authenticity with my clinical experience and expertise. In a nutshell, I keep it real with my clients. I realize that it’s not easy to open up and tell someone your innermost feelings. The thought of doing so may create anxiety or shame. Or maybe, you don’t even know what you innermost feelings are. That’s why I’m here. I am committed to establishing safety and trust first, so that you feel comfortable as I support you on your journey of healing.
With that being said, I am not the stereotypical, silent therapist that just sits and nods. My share how much they appreciate that I roll up my sleeves and work along side them. Again, my goal is to help you get on your feet so that you can finally experience living your best life to the fullest. I want you to be the best you.
I have many tools in my clinical toolbox, and am highly trained in trauma and addiction work through the lenses of attachment theory and adverse childhood experiences. As an addiction therapist, I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) frequently. From your initial assessment until termination of our time together, I’m intentionally working on providing you the best experience customized to you. It takes a lot of courage to seek therapy, and I thank you for allowing me into your process.
When I’m not being a therapist
When I’m not being a therapist, I am a busy mom working at my kids’ school, walking my dog, running or in my favorite workout class. I also enjoy attending church, having coffee, lunch or dinner with friends. I attend 12 step support meetings because I believe it is vitally important for me to maintain my mental health as well AND model this behavior.. I think it’s highly important as a mom and a therapist to teach my children and my clients a life of balance. Without balance, we may not find the health and happy life that we seek. It’s important to work, socialize, play, rest, and have spiritual time. It’s important to practice good self care and sleep hygiene. So, I constantly work on balancing my days.
